About Michelle Murray

Michelle Murray is a veteran news, sports, and entertainment programming executive from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with decades of experience under her belt. A native of Philadelphia, she attended and graduated from the University of Hawaii before diving straight into the professional world to build up her repertoire and experience.

Michelle initially started in her professional career right at home, returning to Philadelphia in 1994 to work for KYW—one of the oldest radio stations in America licensed to air in Philadelphia—first as a Producer, then as an Executive Producer for the station. She remained there for five years before moving to New York City, where she spent four years building her portfolio and bringing her expertise to two different jobs. For one year, she worked as the Senior Producer of Fox News TV, then moved on as the Senior Manager of News and Specials and Assistant News Director for WCBS.

During her time with WCBS, Michelle Murray stepped in as acting news director for WCBS-TV; coverage of the 9/11 tragedy in 2001; this coverage eventually earned the network a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. The Edward R. Murrow Award recognizes both local and national news stations for coverage following the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrating technical expertise and prowess and showing the importance and impact of journalism. Michelle’s journalistic integrity shows through her leading the network to earn one of these awards.

In 2004, Michelle Murray went to Chicago to be the News Director for NBC Sports Chicago, then returned to New York City to be the News Director for SportsNet New York a year later. While working for SportsNet New York, Michelle Murray also began her long tenure with NBC Sports Philadelphia. Under the CSN Philadelphia branch of the network, Michelle Murray oversaw every area of CSN’s news programs, including Emmy-Award winning programs like SportsNet Central and Philly Sports Talk. She has also overseen pre and post-game specials and programs for the network.

While having the role of Vice President, News Programming, Michelle Murray flexed her leadership skills to a new level. Her extensive experience and expertise in news, sports, and entertainment programming allowed her to lead CSN Philadelphia to earn six different Edward R. Murrow Awards, reflecting positively on her leadership and management abilities. Her capabilities eventually led to her promotion in 2017, where she was moved up to be the Vice President of Content and Programming for the networking.

Michelle Murray’s past with CSN Philadelphia reflected positively on her promotion. The President and General Manager of CSN Philadelphia at the time, Brian Monihan, said that Michelle was perfect for the role, having the ability to align the program with what their fans would like to consume while navigating the network through “the ever-changing media landscape.”

As Vice President of Content and Programming, Michelle Murray was responsible for CSN Philadelphia’s portfolio of multi-platform content, such as news and online, mobile, and social assets.

In her present role, Michelle Murray is the News Director for News 12 New Jersey, where she brings more than 20 years of newsroom leadership and experience to the table, alongside an incredible talent for building driven teams and growing viewership and platform revenue.
